Gina Miller Calls LBC After Theresa May Rules Out Joining TV Debate

The Brexit legal campaigner Gina Miller put her trip away on hold to call LBC and decry Theresa May’s decision not to take part in tonight’s TV debate.

Jeremy Corbyn announced today (Wednesday) he had changed his mind and now would take part, despite previously refusing unless the PM agreed to too.

The Labour leader will join the leaders of the Lib Dems, Ukip, the Green Party, Plaid Cymru and the SNP’s leader at Westminster.

The Tories will be represented by Home Secretary Amber Rudd after Mrs May made clear she would not take part in a face-to-face showdown with any other party leader during the campaign.

Ms Miller told Shelagh Fogarty that the British public should be “alarmed” by the PM’s decision.

“It’s Mrs May who called this election… and she should defend why she did it,” Ms Miller said.

“She should be able to clearly say to the British public: ‘This is what I stand for, this is what this election is about and this is my plan going forward.”

Speaking on the campaign trail in Bath, the Prime Minister once again defended her decision - explaining: “I’ve been taking Jeremy Corbyn on directly week in, week out at Prime Minister’s Questions.”
